Anyone can become angry—that is easy. But to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way—this is not easy.

These words were spoken by Aristotle, pupil of Plato and teacher of Alexander the Great approximately twenty-five hundred years ago. Considered one of the greatest philosopher/thinkers of western civilization even Aristotle recognized the difficulty of managing anger properly.
Our mission at the Anger Management Center is simple and focused: to teach our clients the necessary skills to manage their anger in a productive manner which will enrich their lives and enhance their relationships. While we cannot eliminate anger, we can learn to express our anger in ways that are acceptable to society and not destructive to ourselves or our loved ones.
Anger is a secondary human emotion used to express negative feelings, fear, rage, unhappiness, helplessness, etc. Individuals use their anger to control/influence others and to gain attention. We believe that anger is a learned response i.e. we can unlearn those inappropriate responses and recondition ourselves and learn new behaviors. Anger Management involves reprogramming our response(s) to fear, frustration, stress and feelings of helplessness. This change requires three ingredients: 1) Knowledge, provided by the Anderson & Anderson anger management workbook, Gaining Control of Ourselves, written by George Anderson, LCSW, BCD. 2) Community, provided by the classroom setting, where interaction assists in gaining insight. 3) Time, to permit the mind to absorb and integrate knowledge, skills and insight.
Anger Management Center utilizes and endorses exclusively the Anderson & Anderson curriculum and techniques for learning to control anger. Mr. George Anderson, the unparalleled guru of anger management, is considered the leading authority/innovator, nationally and internationally, on the study of anger management. Mr. Anderson has compiled an outstanding series of exercises, explanations and techniques for learning to control anger.
Airport Anger Management Center uses the Anderson & Anderson intervention program developed by George Anderson which is the most effective and most widely recognized curriculum in the world. The anger management program consists of two components: assessment and skill development. The Conover Assessment is used in the initial interview; it focuses on the client’s current level of functioning in the areas of managing anger and stress, communication skills and emotional intelligence. The anger management program focuses on enhancing emotional intelligence, improving assertive communication as well as behavior strategies for recognizing, coping with and managing anger and stress.
The Conover Assessment identifies the client’s level in six (6) specific areas:
(1) Interpersonal Assertion, how comfortable you are about telling others about your thoughts, feelings and behaviors in your dealings with others.
(2) Interpersonal Aggression, how your communication style violates, offends or takes away another’s rights, thoughts or feelings.
(3) Interpersonal Deference, how much your communication style tends to yield or give in to someone else, often lets others have their way. To relinquish your rights to another person.
(4) Empathy, your current skill and ability to sense, comprehend and be accepting of another person’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Empathy is essential to good communication.
(5) Stress Management, your skill in managing stress and worry. Good stress management skills are important in healthful living and are keys to a healthy personality.
(6) Change Orientation, the degree to which you are motivated to change. Your, readiness quotient in regard to your willingness to change your current behaviors and emotional responses.
